Just minutes from Austin, Texas in the heart of the scenic Texas Hill Country, the Colorado River Chain of seven lakes known as The Highland Lakes, offer exciting black bass, white bass and striper action. Some 63 miles in length, 20,000-acre Lake Travis is home to the Guadalupe bass, the state fish of Texas. Travis owns the bragging rights to the world record for this fiesty species of bass, which is also excellent table fare. A great lake for catching big numbers of bass, it's common to catch largemouth, Guadalupe and white bass in a single outing during the spring months. The best fishing occurs during the spring and fall months as bass migrate to shallow water to spawn in the spring and to feed in the fall. The city of Austin and smaller lakeside resort communities offer a full complement of lodging, restaurants and entertainment.
